Old Barn Hollow
Old Barn Hollow began in our Chenango Bridge farmhouse in 2008. Canning and preserving had become a hobby for owner Karen Allen. She began making her own jams and jellies and received such rave reviews from friends and family, she decided to start selling the preserves at the Otsiningo Farmer's Market. Over the next few years, the demand for these tasty spreads sky rocketed. Raising four daughters with her husband Jeff, a Lieutenant with the City of Binghamton Fire Department, and working full time as a high school science teacher, Karen was unable to keep up with demand. So, Karen decided it was time to resign from her teaching job and open a store that would embody her new found passion for "locavore" style food. A store with a commercial kitchen and help from her husband and co-owner Jeff, would allow her to expand beyond jams and jellies, to other canned goods, preserves, and gluten free goodies. A store front would also allow a year round, one stop shop for food and products normally found only at farmers' markets. Old Barn Hollow Farm Market & Gluten Free Bakery opened it's doors on August 3, 2012, becoming Binghamton's first and only locavore store. We later added a gluten free bakery, becoming the area's only 100% gluten free bakery.
At our farm, we raise egg producing chickens, quail, rabbits, and grass fed sheep (...and our 4 daughters). Occasionally, you can find our chickens dark brown, blue, and green eggs for sale at the shop. The sheep, quail, and rabbits are raised for their meat and can also be bought at our shop.
The future looks bright at Old Barn Hollow. With our move to State Street, Old Barn Hollow will be bringing the first and only grocery store to Downtown Binghamton since the 1990's. With the larger space We hope to add even more local treasures and Gluten Free Goodies. Being in the heart of Binghamton's art district, we plan to embrace our new community by featuring different artists in our shop each month. We are also working on creating a local food hub, to help in the farm to table effort, and opening a certified shared use kitchen, which can be used by local farms and artisans to create value added products.
We wouldn't be able to do any of this without our faithful customers. Thank you for your support and patronage!
